Qigong Classes Like Tai Chi but Much More Powerful
Improve Your Physical and Mental Health

Feel the energy circulating throughout your body as you feel your stress and tension melt away.  Learn to relax at the deepest levels while you look and feel your best as you develop a stronger, more supple body through Chi Kung practice.

Ba Gua Qigong, also spelled as Qi Gong, and Chi Kung, is one of the most natural and effective exercise methods known to improve your physical and mental health. If you have ever seen or taken Tai Chi, this class is similar in its slow meditative movements and even more effective in its ability to heal the body and mind.

Here is some insight offered by one of our students about her experience taking Chi Kung Classes at the Blue Dragon School:

“I have been with the school for almost 4 years. I tried numerous exercise programs including cycling, yoga, and various gyms and never stayed with any of them. After 6 months, I was bored to tears and found no improvement either physically or mentally. All of that changed when I joined Blue Dragon…The Chi Kung classes improve my flexibility and endurance plus it provides a sense of calm that I had never experienced with either yoga or Tai Chi. I am 52 years old and I am in the best shape of my life. Shifu Ahles is a wonderful teacher and motivator.”

Rosemary Potter, Hasbrouck Heights, NJ

Ba Gua Qigong Classes can help you to:

  • Reduce Stress & Anxiety
  • Learn Relaxation Techniques
  • Increase Energy
  • Promote Deep Levels of Circulation
  • Lower Blood Pressure
  • Improve Mood
  • Develop Strength, Balance & Flexibility
  • Improve Focus and Concentration
  • Manage Stress by learning to Remain Calm even when faced with Adversity
  • Loosen the Body making you Less Prone to Falls and Injury

These are very real benefits the practice can bring. Here is how another student describes how Chi Kung not only reduced his stress level but also helped his back problems:

“I have been a student for just about one year now and I have seen great improvement physically and mentally. I had been looking for something to help strengthen my back. Chi Kung has helped prevent any back problems for me over this past year. The stretching and strengthening of muscles is so beneficial. I really enjoy that anyone can be successful at Chi Kung, no matter your level of fitness, everyone can benefit. It is also really special because it trains your body and your mind. It teaches you how to control your mind and learn to relax and reduce stress which everyone can use today.”

Why are Tai Chi and Chi Kung Classes so popular these days?
With stress related symptoms being one of the leading causes for trips to the doctor in the U.S. today, many health professionals have begun recommending classes like Tai Chi Class, Qigong or Yoga. These types of classes are particularly known for their ability to help promote feelings of relaxation and well being.

Why Chi Kung? Why not the Gym?
When you jump on a treadmill at the gym and stare at the TV or start chatting with the person next to you, your mind is not engaged on what your body is doing. The mind and body are disconnected. When the mind is not fully engaged, much of the benefit from the exercise is lost. When practiced properly this never happens with Chi Kung. In order to learn the exercise movements, your mind must be focused and engaged in the moment.

What are the Instructor’s qualifications to teach Chi Kung (Qigong)?
Being taught by an experienced and qualified instructor is essential to receiving the proper training and to get the full health benefits out of the program. Chief Instructor, Shifu Raymond Ahles, is a certified Qiang Shan Ba Gua Zhang Qi Gong (Chi Kung) Instructor. Shifu Ahles is also professionally trained and certified in Oriental Medicine. He completed the Advanced Amma Therapy® (Chinese medical massage) program in 1997 and is a “Certified Amma Therapist” (C.A.T.); and the Oriental Medicine program (Traditional Chinese Medicine, including acupuncture and herbology) in 1998. He is National Board Certified in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs (NCCAOM). Shifu Ahles brings a depth of experience and understanding to the practice of Chi Kung that is readily apparent to those taking his classes.

What if I have trouble sticking with an exercise program?
Everyone knows that exercise does a body good but too often people begin an exercise routine only to drop it as quickly as they began it. Joining a Tai Chi or Chi Kung class where you are led by an instructor and receive encouragement and support through a group setting can be just what you need to get started and stay motivated.

Is it true that exercise can really improve brain function in addition to reducing stress?  Yes, exercise is useful in stress management. But, according to John Ratey, MD, a Harvard professor and author of the recent book “Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain”, he also recommends exercise for depression, anxiety and addictions as well as touting its ability to improve cognitive function. He further states that “Exercise is the most important tool people have to optimize brain function. If you get your body in shape” he says “the mind will follow”.

How does complex motor activity such as martial arts produce different effects in the brain?
According to Dr. Ratey, the more complicated the exercise, the more challenging it is. Martial arts and dance are perfect examples. You’re focusing parts of your brain as well as doing the aerobics. It optimizes the brain to learn. He goes on to state that exercise can “…delay cognitive decline by as much as seven to ten years. It plays a huge role in maintaining and regaining cognitive function.”

How do I find time in my busy schedule to take classes?
It’s really quite simple. You need to make an appointment for yourself.  Think about it. If you do not take time out to take care for yourself, how well equipped are you really to take care of others? At the Blue Dragon School of Martial Arts, we are open 7 days a week and offer a flexible class schedule with morning and evening classes. Finding time in your busy schedule for a qigong class couldn’t be any easier.
